So, after two nights in Atlanta, it was time to hit the road East for Tybee Island on the Savannah coast of Georgia. First, though, there was time for a soak in the hot tub and a cool down in the pool at Mark and Wendie's.
Ahhh! That's better. So, after that relaxation session it was time for lunch and then to hit the "Interstate" for the 5+ hours drive to Tybee.
We divided ourselves up between two cars, the human "boys" in one, the "girls" plus Toby the dog in the other and hit the road.
Now, Mark and I intended to share the driving and I "let" him take the first leg out of Atlanta. I had not driven on the "wrong" side of the road for many years (and never in the USA), and didn't fancy negotiating the Atlanta traffic as my first US driving experience.
So, we got through Atlanta with no dramas and onto Interstate 75 towards Macon, then onto I-16 to a rest area near Dublin, Georgia, where there was free coffee and an area for Toby to stretch his legs.
Then it was my turn to drive and it turned out OK. Once onto the interstate I was in the zone but still concentrating hard (you know, that situational awareness thing from flying). Passing is allowed on both sides, as in NZ, so I was used to that, but was careful to frequently "check my 6" in the mirrors. Once Mark seemed happy with my driving abilities he dozed off for an hour or so and left me to it with a little help from "Lady Satnav". Fortunately, he woke up for the approach to Savannah and guided me through and on to Tybee. I nearly had a brain fade turning into the supermarket, it seemed logical to pass to the left of an SUV exiting, but with Mark's guidance I passed correctly to the right.
After a big food shop, Mark drove the last few miles to their place at Tybee Island.
All for now, a few photos to finish this part....
